Help! AV Reciever keeps shutting off

my dad brings me a lot of weird gadgets and tech that he finds at his work, and his most recent find was a Yamaha AV receiver. so i took it with me and set it up with the rest of my video equipment, and it was working great for couple minutes, until it suddenly just shut off. my guess is a bad cooling system or maybe some faulty wiring, but i wanted to ask about it here to see if anyone has had any experience with these kinds of things.

It may be a faulty capacitor causing a short as well! I think you're probably right about the wiring 3: but it may be worth checking to see if there are any visible capacitors, and if any of them look to be bulging or popped. Definitely tough to fix if so!!

this is good info! the receiver has been sitting in my room as deadweight for a couple weeks now lol so i might take this into consideration if i ever give fixing it a shot!
